King of German fashion design Karl Lagerfeld is branching out into children’s clothing, with the launch of a range of designer garments for future fashionistas. The first Prêt-à-Porter collection for kids is playful, but edgy — think chic tailored blazers and cool leather biker jackets, jeans and T-shirts, complemented with a range of shoes, bags and accessories, for boys and girls aged 0 to 16. Choupette, Lagerfeld’s beloved and pampered feline companion, was clearly a source of inspiration for the collection; the kitty is depicted getting into mischief on T-shirts and purring on ballet pumps, while hats and hairbands feature cute pointy ears. The feline theme continues on bags and sneakers, and linings and shirt collars are adorned with a subtle embroidered cat logo. The collection even includes a baby’s bib showing an adorable sleepy Choupette. Selected garments and accessories from the range are available exclusively from Paris-based online shop melijoe.com from December. The website also features beautifully integrated, animated illustrations of Choupette in action.
